There are strict laws surrounding all drugs in Vietnam, including cannabis. However when I was there this did not seem the case, it was not hard to come by and you were able to smoke it in most hotels and clubs without getting any bother from the staff. This may well be down to the fact that Vietnam are trying to develop their tourism industry, cops cracking down on tourists for non violent offences such as cannabis possession would give them a bad reputation within the tourism industry.

Currently, Vietnam does not distinguish between medical and recreational use of cannabis, making any involvement risky. While this is the official stance our experience was very different, keep your wits about you but don’t be too worried.
Where To Buy Weed In Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)
Personally I only visited 3 places during my time in Vietnam but I managed to get weed in them all. In Ho Chi Minh city head over to the T&R club in district 1, walk around the surrounding area for a couple of minutes and I guarantee you will be offered cannabis by multiple people. This is a tourist heavy area so the prices of the drugs will be inflated, expect to pay way above the average local price. Once you have picked up head back to the T&R club, they let you smoke inside and have a good selection of live music and well priced drinks.
Where To Buy Weed In Hanoi
Hanoi was also another place where weed was aplenty, all of the old women selling cigarettes are a good place to start, just ask around. If you still cant find any then head to the big lake in the center of Hanoi, at night time there will always be motorcycle taxi’s selling cannabis.

Hoi An isn’t a big place but we didn’t struggle to find weed here, even in a typhoon. There is a river that runs through the area, head over to the restaurants surrounding it. There are alot of motorbike taxi drivers here, they can help you find weed easily.
Weed In Da Nang and Coastal Cities
Cities like Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Hoi An, known for their laid-back beach lifestyle, exhibit a somewhat relaxed attitude toward cannabis. While still illegal, the coastal vibe contributes to a more lenient view among locals and expats. Even so, public consumption remains risky.
The Rural Experience: Cannabis in the Countryside
There is also so many places of natural beauty in Vietnam, SaPa is tucked away in the mountains and is awash with naturally growing wild cannabis. You can visit and stay with the locals and learn about how they have adopted cannabis as part of their culture and use it to fight off the cold when needs be. You can sample some of Vietnam’s best cannabis while enjoying some of its best scenery.
Ha Long Bay is also the perfect place to just chill out and smoke a spliff, you can hire a private boat for a small fee and sail through the rocky crags while smoking and enjoying one of the wonders of the world. Vietnam is a truly beautiful place and I urge everyone to visit if you get the chance.

If you are fed up with getting ripped off when buying weed in countries such as Vietnam then you will have to make friends with an expat who lives in the area, it is likely that they will have some good connections and will probably be able to get you nicer weed at a cheaper price than you would get off any of the street dealers.
Conclusion
Both of the major cities seemed pretty cannabis friendly on the whole, while walking around Hanoi at night asking for weed multiple locals offered to smoke some of their personal stash with us even though they didn’t have any to sell, it nice to see stoner etiquette surpassing the language barrier, we were also free to smoke as much as we wanted in the hotel as the receptionist was always out of his mind tripping on spice.
It is also worth noting that when travelling a place such as South-East Asia you need to make sure you stock up on your rolling supplies before you come. There is a very small selection of long papers and they are all very highly priced. A grinder and roach (tips) will also come in handy, there is nothing worse than running out of the essentials when you are in a foreign country so make sure you come prepared.
